December 2007 Lake Travis ISD Sales up 5%

I just ran the residential sales statistics under Lake Travis ISD for December 2007 and found that sales were 5% higher than December 2006! That is not just good news but GREAT news! Looking at the stats for the entire Austin MLS area, sales are down 24% from last December. But if you look at the sales for the entire 2007 in Austin and compare to the 2006 sales, sales are down only 8%.

This week, our mortgage speaker, Land Mortgage, announced that the 30 year fixed rates are 5.875% (with 20% down payment) and the 15 year fixed rate is at 4.875% I remember these rates 2 years ago, that is just awesome. I surely hope that this is a good sign for our economy and for real estate related businesses. Stay tuned and I will keep you updated.

Austin Ranks #39 as Fun Cities in 50 markets

Austin Business Journal reports that Austin ranks as # 39 under Fun Cities. Unsurprisingly, New York City tops the list of America's top fun places. That's because of the variety of recreation and entertainment available in the Big Apple. I know for a fact that my husband and I would escape our home (back then) in Long Island and spend our afternoons in the city, to dine and watch a musical on Broadway. Bizjournals has collected statistics and based on a bunch of factors, came up with this list.

With Austin's shopping, arts and musical background, golf, sailing/water recreation, I am surprised we didn't rank higher. But check out the first link above to see how we scored in several of their categories.

Austin #7 Best Housing Market

Business Week has reported that Austin/Round Rock, TX has ranked #7 as the Best housing market of third quarter across the US. The best in terms of price appreciation compared to this time last year (a 9.67% appreciation in one year or 28.82% in 5 years). So for you buyers out there, don’t wait any longer.
